hot-Your iPhone Gets Google Maps Street View Back Tomorrow

Google Maps isn't really gone from iPhones in iOS 6. You can still get it through the vastly inferior mobile version of its browser-based web app. Tim Cook even suggested you try it if you're dissatisfied with Apple Maps. In a recent video about Google Maps, SeƱor Walt Mossberg notes that the company will be adding Street View to this mobile version of the app starting tomorrow. This more or less confirms earlier reports that the feature was coming soon. Huzzah! [WSJ via 9To5Mac]

hot-Leaked T-Mobile roadmap has dates for LG Optimus L9, Huawei Summit, and a color refresh for the Galaxy S2

T-Mo roadmap
The folks over at TmoNews got their hands on a leaked T-Mobile US roadmap for fall, and as expected there's several Android devices in the spotlight
.
First up on October 29 is a "color refresh" for the Samsung Galaxy S2. This one has our interest, because nobody is quite sure what colors will be offered. as the original already comes in black or white.

Following closely on October 31 is the release of the Huawei Summit, a previously unknown Android phone. The specs are nowhere to be seen, but it's a pretty safe bet to say this will be an entry level handset. There's a leaked render after the break of the Summit.

Also on October 31 is the scheduled release of the LG Optimus L9 (see our hands-on). While things like 4GB of onboard storage keep this one decidedly entry-level, our impression was that it's a surprisingly nice phone. At the right price, it could make quite a splash.

Absent is the Galaxy Note 2, but we're not going to read too much into that. A device of that caliber will likely have a special launch of its own, and not be lumped with the rest of the fall lineup.

Of course none of this is official until it's made official, but leaks and speculation are half the fun this time of year. Click through for the leaked Huawei Summit press shot

hot Will an iPad Mini be worth buying?

Why I might buy one
Right now I don't own any tablet device, but I'd like to buy a small tablet for myself this holiday season. If Apple does launch the iPad Mini, I'd consider it -- mainly because as a mobile technology reporter, I probably should own at least one iOS device. see the answer

hot-Mangsa teknologi

hot- Go to maps.google.com.my to start using the free service.

KUALA LUMPUR: Google Malaysia today introduced three major enhancements to Google Maps that allow Malaysian commuters to better plan their journeys and look up traffic jam information.

Two new layers — Traffic and Transit — have been added and a Bahasa Malaysia interface has been introduced. All of these are available on the desktop and mobile versions of Google Maps.

Traffic, probably the most useful of the lot for harassed motorists, provides data on near real time road congestion right on the map.
Correlating the traffic flow in Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, with what is shown on Google Maps's Traffic service. The map showed the road to be green, and it was accurately portrayed by the smooth traffic outside the window.

By turning on the Traffic layer on Maps, users can quickly see whether roads are congested or flowing freely based on colour coding — red for choc-a-bloc, yellow for slow moving, and green for smooth flowing. Drivers who are familiar with the roads can also use the information to plan alternative routes to their destination.

Next, Transit provides information on travel via the Malaysian public transportation system on Google Maps. Now, in areas with available transit data, whenever a user selects directions, say, from A-to-B, there is a third new option in addition to the familiar walking and driving directions.

Maps users can view the step-by-step public transportation information which includes bus, LRT, monorail and Komuter travel options. Users can also see where bus stops and train stations are located.

Transit provides a more sustainable option for Malaysians looking to reduce traffic congestion and get around town by using public transportation. Users can also plan ahead by setting their departure time to make sure they get back at a specific time.

Finally, Google Maps is now available in Bahasa Malaysia, giving Malay native speakers better accessibility and the option of interfacing and navigating with Google Maps using the language they are most comfortable with.

With 60 per cent of Malaysians using Bahasa Malaysia as their primary language and with over 90 per cent proficiency in the language nationwide, this localisation initiative should make it easier for Malaysians to get the most from Maps.

Sivanandan showing Google Maps and its latest services are also available on the smartphone apart from desktops and laptops.
Explaining the rationale for the three enhancements, Google Malaysia country manager Sajith Sivanandan said Malaysians were using Google Maps in "very large numbers", and the logical step forward was to make the experience more relevant and useful.

“Malaysians commute a lot, and these enhancements add a new level of usability to Google Maps for Malaysians, making it easier to look up information, move around the country, and get from point A to B quickly and with minimum hassle and fuss,” he said.

Traffic and Transit for Maps data comes from a variety of sources, including government departments of transportation, private data providers, and users of Google Maps for mobile who contribute anonymous speed information through Google’s traffic crowdsourcing feature.

The enhancements were developed by Google R&D centres around the world, said Sivanandan, adding that maps were regularly updated to keep pace with changing road networks.

The Traffic and Transit services are currently available only for the Klang Valley and Google Malaysia expects to deploy them to urban centres outside the valley eventually.

Google Maps was launched in 2009 and has been providing users localised geographic information – online maps, topographical information, satellite imagery, driving directions, addresses and businesses listings – on their desktop, tablets and mobile phones.

hot-China cracks down on iPhone fakes

Police in Shanghai have arrested five people for making fake iPhones, state media said, just as Apple fans overseas wait with bated breath for the launch of the US giant's newest model.

The craze for all things Apple in China has triggered widespread cloning of iPhones and iPads. In July, an American blogger even uncovered fake Apple stores in the southwestern city of Kunming.

Police said the Shanghai gang scavenged parts from discarded iPhones and combined them with counterfeit components to create the fakes, which were then sold, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

The raid on the gang took place in July, and police seized more than 200 fake iPhones and other parts valued at five million yuan (NZ$1.03m) from a workshop in a rented apartment, it said.

It was unclear whether the gang members were arrested then or in September, and local police could not be reached for comment.

The bogus iPhones sold for more than 4,000 yuan each, close to the price for the genuine article, the Shanghai Daily newspaper reported.

The news comes as speculation mounts that Apple may unveil its next generation iPhone as early as October 4, after the US technology giant sent out invitations for an unspecified event on that day.

The launch is sure to trigger huge excitement in China, which has the world's largest online population with over 500 million users.

Some die-hard fans queue for days to get their hands on the latest Apple products.

Apple only has five official stores in mainland China - two in Beijing and three in Shanghai - although more shops are authorised to sell its products, while others offer those smuggled in from overseas markets.

Apple iPhone 5 Launch: Here’s What to Expect

The iPhone 5 is coming. This is no rumor, no guesswork, no fuzzy photo taken by someone allegedly holding an iPhone 5 prototype. Apple has set the date and the place for a real product launch.

Okay, I am getting ahead of myself a bit. The invite does not explicitly mention an iPhone 5. It just promises we’ll talk about the iPhone. Yes, a nice little chat with me, Apple CEO Tim Cook and a few hundred of our closest friends at Apple’s Cupertino campus. There’ll be coffee and Danish. It’ll be cozy.
