hot-Italian football suspended after player death

Livorno midfielder Piermario Morosini in action during a second league match against

All weekend football in Italy was called off on Saturday following the death of Livorno midfielder Piermario Morosini, a player whose own private life had been plagued by a series of tragedies.

The 25-year-old, on loan from Serie A side Udinese, collapsed on the pitch during a second division game at Pescara and was later pronounced dead in hospital.

It continued a tragic family history that saw Morosini's parents die while he was a teenager, after which his disabled brother also committed suicide.

He is survived by an older sister, who is handicapped.
Morosini's death comes just under a month after Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest during his side's FA Cup quarter-final match with Tottenham, prompting calls for more stringent medical checks on footballers.

The Italian Football Federation general manager Antonello Valentini responded to Saturday's tragedy by suspending all remaining weekend football, starting with the Serie A match between AC Milan and Genoa.
The match had been due to kick-off at 6:00 pm local time (1600 GMT). Fans already at the San Siro stadium responded to that announcement largely with applause, although some jeered.

Italian Olympic Committee president Giovanni Petrucci later invited all Italian sports federations to observe a minute's silence in memory of Morosini.

Morosini suffered a heart attack during the first half of the match. He collapsed suddenly and was treated on the pitch before being taken away by ambulance to the Civile Santo Spirito hospital in Pescara.
But the former Italy under-21 international was later pronounced dead.

Pescara's masseur Claudio D'Arcangelo said he knew immediately something was wrong.
"I darted onto the pitch because I understood straight away that it was a serious situation," he said.
"I didn't even wait for the referee's permission. I gave him heart-massage straight away and for a moment I felt he was coming back but there was nothing we could do."

There was a delay as the ambulance was initially prevented from entering the stadium due to a police car blocking an exit.

Pescara goalkeeper Luca Anania explained: "There were moments of great confusion and I tried to understand what was happening, also with regard to the delay of the emergency services.

"They said the ambulance couldn't come onto the pitch because the entrance was blocked by another car. Some of my team-mates carried the stretcher to the ambulance."

Local authorities opened an investigation into the incident but a heart specialist said the delay made no difference.

"A minute more or less in the ambulance would not have done anything," cardiologist Dr Paloscia told ANSA.

"His heart had stopped and never started beating again. We tried to reanimate him for an hour and a half but it was all to no avail."

Italian media were alerted to Morosini's death initially by an "explosion of shouts and tears" from his team-mates who had come to the hospital, ANSA said.

Police started to usher the press away but the official confirmation followed shortly afterwards.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter was amongst those to pay tribute to Morosini.
"The tragedy that has affected everyone that loved him has brought great pain to everyone who loves football," he said on his Twitter page.

Muamba's collapse on March 17 raised fears that he would become another entry in the grim list of professional footballers who have died playing the game, the most high-profile being Marc-Vivien Foe.
The 28-year-old Cameroon midfielder, who played for West Ham United, Manchester City and Lyon, died after collapsing during a Confederations Cup semi-final against Colombia in Lyon in June 2003.

But Muamba -- whose heart stopped for 78 minutes as medics battled to keep him alive both at the stadium and then in hospital -- defied the odds and has since made incredible progress, boosting hopes that he will make a full recovery.

hot-FAM digodam

CERCA...laman web FAM tercemar dengan kata-kata mengkritik pucuk kepimpinan.
CERCA...laman web FAM tercemar dengan kata-kata mengkritik pucuk kepimpinan.
LAMAN web Persatuan Bola Sepak Malaysia (FAM) digodam lagi.

Presiden Sila Letak Jawatan’ dan ‘Presiden Sila Letak Jawatan Kami Dah Fed-Up!’

hot-Fernando Alonso juara F1 Malaysia

formula one
- Bernama

hot-Kia wins two more design awards; buys new trophy cabinet

Kia is no stranger to the red dot design awards; it has previously won with the Kia Optima K5 and the Sportage. Well, here are two more for the award cabinet.

The five-door versions of the Kia Picanto and the Rio have been named winners in red dot’s ‘Product Design’ category. Both cars were up against more than 4,500 products by 1,800 manufacturers of different industries across the world.

To date, Kia’s red dot awards now total six – the Soul in 2009, Venga in 2010, Sportage and Optima in 2011. The Optima was also named ‘best of the best’ in 2011 – the highest award for groundbreaking design, eligible to only the best products in each category.

Other awards for the Rio include the best ‘Exterieur’ class at the Automotive Brand Contest in 2011. As for the Picanto three-door, it took home the iF product design award 2012.

I wonder just how packed Peter Schreyer’s design trophy cabinet is now?

COOL-TENNIS ON A HELIPAD

The most memorable points Andre Agassi and Roger Federer ever played against one another didn't come at Wimbledon, the U.S. Open or any other Grand Slam. None of that compared to the sight of the two tennis superstars trading ground strokes 700 feet above Dubai's Jumeirah beach in a February 2005 exhibition on the helipad on the roof of the seven-star Burj Al Arab hotel.

HOT-Woman runs marathon, gives birth

CHICAGO -- Amber Miller felt contractions just minutes after crossing the finish line at the Chicago Marathon. A few hours later, the suburban Chicago woman -- who slogged her way through 26.2 miles while nearly 39 weeks pregnant -- delivered a healthy baby girl.

"For me, it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I was running up until that point anyway," Miller told The Associated Press in an interview from the hospital where she was recovering Monday. "I am crazy about running."

Sunday's marathon was the eighth for the 27-year-old, who has been running for more than a dozen years. She found out she was pregnant with her second child days after signing up for the Chicago race and decided to play it by ear on whether or not she would run.

When the baby hadn't been born by Sunday, she got clearance from her doctor to run half. She completed it with a with a half-run, half-walk approach, drinking lots of fluids and eating a lot along the way. She finished in 6:25:50, much slower than her usual marathon time, but still content.

"Lots of people were cheering me on: 'Go pregnant lady!'" she said. "I was expecting some negative comments. I don't remember anything."

It was not Miller's first marathon while pregnant.

HOT-Fan throws hot dog near Tiger Woods

SAN MARTIN, Calif. -- A male spectator ran onto a green shouting Tiger Woods' name and then threw a hot dog at him Sunday during the final round of the Frys.com Open in Northern California.

The unidentified person was quickly subdued and Woods was not in any danger. In fact, within a minute, he had settled back over the putt he was attempting.

"I looked up and the hot dog was in the air," Woods said of the incident that occurred on the seventh hole, his 16th of the day. "(The fan) wanted to be in the news. I guess he is now."

The tournament's director of security, Dan Diggins, would not disclose the person's name but said that he appeared to have been drinking. "He's just an idiot," Diggins said.

Sgt. Jose Cardoza of the Santa Clara County police department said the 31-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace, a misdemeanor. He was escorted from the property.

Diggins said the person did not get within 40 feet of Woods, who was finishing up the Frys.com Open with a final-round 68.

"How weird was that," said Arjun Atwal, one of the other players in Woods' group. "That guy could have been shot the way he ran out there with that hot dog. The cops could have thought it was something else. The hot dog flew across Tiger's (putting) line and onto my line. The bun kind of fell at his feet. It was the weirdest thing I've ever seen."

Woods said that it appeared the person wanted and expected to be arrested.

"He was pretty far away from me, and you know, when he started making the commotion and the gallery started to kind of get into it, I could hear the security behind me. I was still bent over my putt," Woods said. "And when I looked up it was already in the air. The bun was kind of disintegrating there.

"So he laid down on the ground and looked like he either knew what he was doing because he laid on the ground, put his hands behind his back and turned his head away from security. So just one of those deals."

Woods was playing in his first tournament since the PGA Championship in August and finished at 277, 7 under par, well back of the leaders who were finishing their front nine when the incident occurred.

hot-No sport, just sex for basketball star

Lithuanian basketball legend Arvydas Sabonis said Tuesday he would have to limit his pleasures after suffering a heart attack a week ago, as doctors decided to release him from hospital.

"The doctors told me, 'You can't smoke, you can't drink, you can't play basketball.' So of the things I like, only sex is left," Sabonis told Lithuanian media at the clinic in his hometown, the central city of Kaunas.

"The doctors decided this. I'm a newcomer here so I do what I'm told," he was quoted as saying by the news website lrytas.lt.

Clinic spokeswoman Egle Zemaitiene told AFP that Sabonis was to be released later Tuesday, a week after his heart attack during a training game in Kaunas.

He is to convalesce at home, with his condition set to be monitored for at least six months.

Sabonis, now 46, was inducted into the NBA's Hall of Fame earlier this year.

Considered one of the top passing centres of all time, he played seven seasons for the Portland Trail Blazers between 1995 and 2003.

He also won Olympic gold for the Soviet Union, and two bronzes for Lithuania once it returned to international competition after breaking free from five decades of Kremlin rule in 1990.

Sabonis is a household name in Lithuania, a nation of three million where basketball is often dubbed the second religion, after Catholicism.

One in 34 of the population plays the sport, according to figures from world governing body FIBA, and Lithuania's national teams are regularly among the globe's top rankers.
