A huge earthquake and strong aftershock have struck off Indonesia’s
Sumatra island, triggering an Indian Ocean-wide tsunami alert that sent
terrified people fleeing from the coast.
The 8.9 magnitude quake hit 431 kilometres off the city of Banda Aceh at 1838 AEST on Wednesday.
The local Meteorological Service has confirmed that earthquake occurred at about 4:40 pm in Northern Sumatra.
Reported that some citizen of Singapore and Malaysia feel the affects of the earthquake.

However only small tsunamis
hit Indonesia and Thailand, with waves of up to 80 centimetres in Aceh,
but there were no reports of damage or casualties.
